SORRY INCIDENT AT THE GATE

THE NARRATIVE BELOW, DESCRIBES AN UNCALLED FOR EVENT, NEAR OUR GATE!
Around 10 PM Saturday night, March 28--Fairways Watch received a call from a long time Fairways resident.The resident vividly described the following.
  They and another couple were returning to the park, after a dinner out around 9:10 PM. While coming through our gate they all noticed a younger white male behaving strangely.The man was waving his arms,yelling incoherently,walking into our ''GATED PREMIER COMMUNITY'' This younger male was described in the following manner.---Scruffy general appearance,-- dirty orange T shirt,-- dirty blue jeans, arms and neck were heavily tattooed --[excuse please , I should have said adorned with ''body art'']--and totally ''under the influence'' of something.
 The good residents stopped and asked the ''gentleman'' if he was Ok. The man immediately became belligerent and combative---WANTING TO FIGHT--challenging the residents,-- all for no reason---He was cursing profusely while stating --''I AM GOING TO SEE MY GIRL FRIEND, IS THAT OKAY?''--- Boy, I will bet that she is a real winner also!
  The good residents did EXACTLY what they should have done.---They backed away and called 911. The residents gave the 911 dispatcher, good descriptive information. While waiting on a deputy, the residents tried to keep track of the offensive visitor with out success. After the officer arrived, the person in question could not be located.
  There is however a strong POSSIBILITY that the''visitor''--- went to a house in the Pebble Beach, --Torrey Pines Ct area. Numerous times similar characters have been known to frequent that particular region of our community.
  This is just another example of why we need an effective gate security system.---- But note we need a system that identifies and deters undesirables, ---not a stooge door man for ''Billy Casper & Co'',--- that we the residents would totally pay for.

A RUMOR SEPARATED FROM FACT

This website went on line, less than 2 years ago. Since it's inception the site has generated over 46,000 visits by mostly resident viewers. [Google count]

   The main objectives of this venture, was to not only provide coverage of security issues of the Fairways, but to also ''control'' some of the outlandish stories and fables that routinely circulate ,in the community.
At the end of the last post, we made reference to a ''rumor'' circulating about another recent under the floor, ''rat burglary ''. The rumor story was about a major theft. Some versions of this story had a large property loss,---OCSO -----involvement,---- guns,---- house damage, a chase and on and on.----The rumor was spinning out of control.---- Fairways Watch went to the ''horses mouth''---the resident involved.In the residents words [paraphrasing]----they said
  Early Wednesday morning Mach 18 at 2 AM, the Troon St resident was awakened by a "BUMP--BUMP'' sound near their bed room wall. The resident, immediately, got up ,turned  on a light,---went outside, --[not recommended]---and walked all around the outside perimeter of the home. When the resident came to their bedroom wall area, they found 2 of the 16'' square skirting blocks pulled out ,laying on the ground.----Thus the source of the'' Bump__Bump'' sound.  There was no sighting of any one!--- no chase-no damage--911 WAS NOT CALLED.-----Hopefully this case is closed.
  IS THIS A SERIOUS MATTER?-----IT DAMN SURE IS!---Just because the ''rat burglar'' plan was foiled, this time does not lessen the seriousness of the threat. We have asked for and are receiving ,increased OCSO uniform patrols. Early this AM we stopped and talked to a young deputy, that was driving around over in the Warwick Hills area.---As always, we thanked him as he went on his way.
  STAY ALERT--WE UNDERSTAND THAT SEVERAL ''HANDY MEN'' ARE INSTALLING ,SECURITY SCREENS OVER THE RETURN AIR RUNS.--IT'S A GOOD THOUGHT!
   THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME UNUSUAL ACTIVITY ,IN THE TROON ST,---MERION DR. AND PINE VALLEY RD AREAS!
  

THE ''WEIRD CRAP'' CONTINUES IN THE FAIRWAYS

JUST ABOUT THE TIME,--THAT YOU THINK THAT YOU HAVE HEARD EVERYTHING !----
  Listen to this---This morning at 6:58 AM-- [March 23] --Fairways Watch received a call from a Muirfield Dr. resident. The call concerned a small black,--very loud-- car. The car had been going , up and down the street, sometimes stopping for a short period of time. Fairways Watch, immediately left to go to the Muirfield area. While on the way to Muirfield,--yet another resident called--same complaint and description. We went up and down Muirfield and surrounding area several times, including a check of the Westchester, to no avail.It was apparent that the small black car had quickly left the area.


WHEN THE FIRST LADY CALLER, LEFT TO GO TO WORK--SHE FOUND THAT HER WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES HAD BEEN STOLEN FROM HER LATE MODEL CAR!
  ''BACK IN THE DAY''---wiper blades cost a few dollars and were a routine replacement item. In this day and age, some blades can easily cost $50+.
  There is also an unverified rumor out in the park,---about another ATTEMPTED under the house entry. REPEAT THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR, FAIRWAYS WATCH WILL GET THE TRUE FACTS ON THIS STORY AND AS ALWAYS, PUBLISH THE TRUTH.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON REPORT.

LONG BEFORE THE SUN CAME UP FRIDAY MORNING [march 20]--A SUSPICIOUS PERSON WAS SPOTTED TWICE BY 2 DIFFERENT RESIDENTS, IN THE SAME GENERAL AREA OF WARWICK HILLS AND INVERARY 
 THE FOLLOWING NARRATIVE IS WHAT MAKES THE CIRCUMSTANCES OUT OF PLACE AND OF A SUSPICIOUS NATURE.
  A middle aged black male ,wearing camouflage Army type fatigue clothing, riding a bicycle, was first seen around 5AM, in the above general area. ----Then at approximately 5:10 AM a person ,fitting the same description,riding a bicycle startled a female resident walking her dog !---BUT---This alert ,quick thinking resident, watched and noticed the following. The described person, rode his bike into a certain residence, in the 1870 block of Warwick Hills drive--BLESS HER---she got the exact address.[this is what is important] The individual tripped a motion light-- our lady resident could plainly see,--as the suspect ,went up to the door and entered the home, without knocking!---It was evident that he had been there and done that before.--- Might be a regular visitor.
  Several years ago, this same house was the scene of other suspicious activity, involving OCSO.

WHAT CAN WE DO?
It is the law---that if a person is invited in by a legal resident there is nothing we can do to stop them.---Case in point the Deerwood mooches that are invited to our pools on a regular basis, by relatives that live in here.
 BUT ---This guy, roaming around in here,looking like he just got home from the battle field,---He could legally be the subject of a 911 suspicious person call !---PROFILING?---You bet your sweet ''bippy'' it is ---so what?---How else can you tell if a person is suspicious or not?

ANOTHER EXTREMELY UNUSUAL BURGLARY--THE ''SCUM BAGS'' STRIKE AGAIN

YET,---ANOTHER ''WEIRD'' BURGLARY IN OUR GATED COMMUNITY!
Early Sunday morning Fairways Watch received a call from an alert, concerned neighbor ,in the 2200 block of Pebble beach Blv. The good neighbor reported that a screen door was open on a home, near their residence. The neighbor,went on to say that the elderly homeowner, was away, visiting family out of town.
  Fairways Watch went to the address of the described residence. It was readily apparent that something was amiss!. With a neighbor ,we checked the interior, and found strong indications of a full blown burglary.
  911 was called for an OCSO officer and an investigation.We also contacted the son of the home owner, where the resident was visiting out of state.Two deputies arrived and all known information and phone numbers were given to the officers.
 There is a positive side to this story---This homeowner and her family ,had been very PRO-ACTIVE!---Before this resident left to go out of state----she took ALL of her valuable jewelry and finances with her--even a small lock box!---SO-- the low- life got little of real value--only old costume jewelry of little worth! VALUABLE ELECTRONIC ITEMS WERE UNTOUCHED.
  YES --the nice, well kept home was in disarray--but--it could have been much worse, had it not been for the fore sight and thinking of the owner and her family.

  THIS IS A PICTURE OF-- THE ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE METHOD OF ENTRY THAT WAS USED!

YES--THE DOWN AND DIRTY THIEF, DID IT AGAIN!---This time there was positive proof that entry was gained from beneath the home,--up through the cold air filter run. Skirting was removed --the very skinny thief went under in all the filth and dirt.---After a long crawl---They cut the vinyl air tube loose from the floor fitting.---They forced the filter and grill out into the home!--Having accomplished,all of their ''cat burglar'' requirements---The extremely fit and thin thief, crawled up through the vent hole that measures 16 x 12 inches !---Almost like something, out of a mystery movie.
  There were very plain, muddy foot tracks, that led away from the filter vent area. These small sized tennis shoe type prints could have been a woman,s shoe !
 This is the fourth burglary in our community, in the last 2 years that involved an issue with the ac filter area.However this one makes it very conclusive with the muddy shoe prints.
  It is only speculation, that a second person could have been let in through the main door, after it was unlocked from within.It is believed that the ''scummies'' were in the house for a period of time.
  WHAT CAN BE DONE TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM THIS TYPE OF INTRUSION?
  There is a resident, in the park ,that is properly licensed to perform AC repairs and service. He can install a special strong security screen over the floor duct entry point, at a low nominal cost. He can be contacted at 407- 440- 3556

UPDATED REPORT FOR ''FAIRWAYS B.O.L.O.''

      WAS IT A ''GYPSY'' THING ?
The previous post, details an event that occurred in the Fairways, Sunday --Mach 8. We have now been given some updated facts by the victim. Shortly after the previously described intrusion, it was not known of any property losses that may have taken place.
  After an inventory of home contents, it was determined that personal financial information and papers along with some small valuables  were missing.
  The Orange County Sheriff,s office was notified on March 13, and a complete report was filed. It is believed that some of the financial information had ALREADY been used! 

A LESSON TO BE LEARNED, AND THEN SOME!
 NEVER--NEVER--let an unknown group of people in your home!!
  If you have something advertised for sale--make ''sales by appointment only''.---CRAIGS LIST is becoming notorious for crimes against sellers.If an appointment is made-- arrange to have other persons, with you.

A ''BOLO'' FOR FAIRWAYS RESIDENTS

A park resident,was confronted by Sunday-- March 8 with the following unusual situation.

 ''BOLO'' IS AN ACRONYM, USED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT, TO DENOTE---''BE ON THE LOOK OUT ''
  Around 6;30 pm last Sunday ,a group of people came to a Pebble Beach  residents door, inquiring about their home that is for sale. The group consisted of one adult male, four adult females, and two children, boy and girl, est ages 10- 13 years of age.
  The group asked to come in and see the home. Once inside,--the kids started running from room to room,--and the adults split up in a diversionary manner. The adult male spoke English,--the women, apparently did not.
  The home owner was finally able to get the ''visitors'' to leave the home. There was another occupant resident in the home, however, that resident has been ill and is somewhat disabled.
 After the ''prospective buyers'' left,---it is believed that possibly--there are items missing, along with personal paperwork. The home is partially packed for moving. This situation ,makes it difficult to inventory the belongings.
  The vehicle that these people were in is as follows--
OLDER, FULL SIZE--SQUARED OFF DESIGN SUV.---DARK BLUE IN COLOR--POSSIBLY A JEEP---NOT BELIEVED TO BE GM OR FORD.
  THE VEHICLE HAS A FRONT PLATE---WITH THE NAME OF A FOREIGN CITY AND THE NAME OF AN AMERICAN TERRITORY !

  WE BELIEVE THAT POSSIBLY THIS VEHICLE AND SAME GROUP, WILL RETURN AGAIN.

Dangerous "IRS" scam unfolding on your phone

There's a new alert about a massive phone scam involving criminals posing as IRS agents. It's something you need to know about with the income tax filing deadline only a month and a half away.

The people behind this scam are calling at least 10,000 Americans every week, and federal investigators say they are absolutely ruthless, reports CBS News correspondent Chip Reid.

Al Cadenhead is senior pastor at Providence Baptist church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Last fall, he got a message on his cell phone from someone claiming to be with the IRS.

"Don't disregard this message as delay in calling us back might end up in a legal matter for you," the message said.

He did call back -- and it was the beginning of a terrifying ordeal.

"This woman gave me her name and her badge number and said she was informing me that they were filing a warrant for my arrest," Cadenhead said. "For tax fraud; and she started listing all the things they were going to do."

He said she told him they would freeze his accounts and put a lien on his house.

"My heart was racing. It was racing. I am very afraid at that point," Cadenhead said.

He did not believe he had done anything wrong, but the stakes were too high to fight.

"I don't want to cause embarrassment to my family, to my church. I'm retiring in a few months. This is not how I want to be remembered, being arrested," Cadenhead said.

So he reluctantly followed orders. Again and again he drove to his bank and withdrew money, then went to drug stores, where he bought prepaid debit cards. Finally, he read the scammers the PIN numbers on the cards -- all they needed to get the money.

He said the entire ordeal lasted from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 or 4 p.m. and he was on the phone the entire time. At the end of it all, they got $16,000 from him.

"This scam impacts everybody. We've had very, very educated and intelligent people fall for it," Treasury Department deputy inspector general for investigations Tim Camus said.

His department is leading a multi-agency investigation.

In the history of scams that he's had to deal with, Camus said this is the "largest, most pervasive impersonation scam in the history of the agency."

At least 366,000 people have reported receiving a call and more than 3,000 of them have been fooled by the scam, giving up a total of $15.5 million.

Even Camus received a call demanding money on his home phone, but he didn't give them a chance.

"I told them their day would come," he said.

The perpetrators use technology that makes the caller ID show area code 202 -- for Washington, D.C., home of the IRS. Despite this, sources say, the calls are really coming from a sophisticated crime ring overseas.

"Investigations of this nature take a long time," Camus said.

Potentially even years, he said.

As for Cadenhead, he just wanted to forget about it.

When he'd realized been scammed, he said, he felt very embarrassed, but said his interview with CBS News would be a way to help other potential victims.

"The only benefit for me is that I have some satisfaction in knowing that maybe a few people can just hang up," Cadenhead said.

The IRS said if you get a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS demanding immediate payment and threatening you with arrest, you are being scammed and you need to hang up the phon

VISITORS,--- THAT DON'T SEEM TO LEAVE

Most of us remember the theme song, from the 60's and 70's --''Those were the Days''. The popular TV situation comedy show, ''All in The Family' 'featured Archie and Edith Bunker. Along with the principals, were their permanent ''House-Guests''---- ''Meathead'' and Gloria. ---The antagonistic son-in-law seemed to never be able to get a job.----SO---they stayed on and on with their in-laws. 

As most rule abiding residents know,----if visiting house guests stay over 30 days in the Fairways, --they are required to go to the office, with acceptable identification ,and pay the recently increased registration fee of $ 40.00.The most critical portion of this registration, is a criminal background check.

 It seems however, that this valid requirement is not adhered to by some residents.----In the past several years there has been a number of ''visiting'' family relatives , forced out of our gated community! 
 Among the expelled relatives,were several convicted felons and hard time prison ex-convicts. These people had convictions ranging from sex offenses to drugs to grand theft,and even kidnapping---.One of the ''guests'', that was forced from our community,--- [ a residents nephew]--- is now serving another new prison term for burglary, ---he is due for release in April 2017.Thankfully, he was put out of the Fairways , before he went back to his old trade.
 The above facts simply point out the validity of the background check requirement.
  We would encourage all residents to notify the community management of any unregistered visitors, that overstay their 30 day limit. ---There may be a reason for them not submitting the required information. ---It is simple to do so ---you may drop a note in the office mail box, or notify Fairways Watch, by an anonymous comment on this blog.
