ANOTHER ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN,--- WITH NEW A NEW CLUE!

LAST NIGHT, MAY 27--THERE WAS AN ATTEMPT TO ENTER AN OCCUPIED RESIDENCE, IN THE 1700 BLOCK OF KINGS MILL DR,
Cartoon Burglar Boy SmilingHOWEVER--This time there was some very important pieces of information  reported by the intended victim.
Both residents were home around 11 PM, in their kitchen area.A window alarm sounded on a side window. The alert resident went out side immediately WITH A GUN !---a description of what the resident saw is as follows---He seen a tall skinny, young, white male in the area of the tampered window!--ESTIMATED AGE OF 17--19 YEARS.---''THE YOUNG MALE RAN LIKE A GAZELLE TOWARD PEBBLE BEACH BLD.''
The resident yelled several threats and challenges to the would be perpetrator [not printable]
IN QUICK ORDER OCSO ARRIVED AND MADE A FULL REPORT. ---Now it seems that we have at least 2 factions of thievery at work in our community!
It is now hoped that residents, see the significance of the reported, repeated entry of young non residents through our gate. ---We would also hope that HTA sees the importance of the reported gate sightings!

IT SEEMS TO BE A LOST CAUSE!

Those folks ,that have attended the last few board meetings, have heard our manager asked several times these questions.---''We are seeing more and more young people in the park. Are we in compliance with the 80/ 20 law?''---AND --''What should we do about young people that we see living in here that do not seem to be residents?'' [paraphrasing]
Usually the managers answer is the same---''yes HTA is in compliance with the 80/20 HUD rule''.--- ''If residents see someone that they do not think is residents living in here--they should contact the office''

On Tuesday May 26-- Fairways Watch sent the Email below to the community manager.

SORRY FOLKS, BUT THERE HAS BEEN ANOTHER ''BIG ONE''

2ND BURGLARY POST TODAY!
PLEASE NOTE----THIS POST HAS BEEN MODERATED FROM IT'S ORIGINAL FORM, PUBLISHED YESTERDAY.THIS WAS DONE DUE TO THE REQUEST OF THE VICTIMS FAMILY. ---CASE IN POINT---ON THE MORNING OF MAY 22---A RELATIVE OF THE VICTIM CALLED FAIRWAYS WATCH AND ASKED US TO COME TO THE ADDRESS OF THE BURGLARY. WHEN WE ARRIVED, WE WERE INVITED IN TO SEE THE BURGLARIZED RESIDENCE AND GIVEN PERMISSION TO TAKE PICTURES FOR THIS POST. ALL PERSONAL INFORMATION WAS FURNISHED BY THE VICTIMS RELATIVE. ---FAIRWAYS WATCH NEVER PUBLISHES THE NAMES OR ADDRESSES OF CRIME VICTIMS--IT SERVES NO REAL PURPOSE.
ON SATURDAY MORNING, WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM ANOTHER RELATIVE OF THE VICTIM, REQUESTING THAT WE DELETE THE PICTURES AND SOME OF THE PERSONAL INFORMATION, GIVEN TO US BY THE OTHER RELATED PARTY. IN ALL DUE RESPECT TO THE FAMILY WE REMOVED THE REQUESTED INFO.
Fairways watch, received a call in mid morning [Friday May 22] That there had been another major break in ,in the 2200 block of Pebble Beach. We went to the scene before OCSO arrived
----Entry was gained through a rear window. Once inside the SOB,s went to the bedrooms, and made a real mess of things. An undetermined amount of loss occurred.
We personally believe that this is the work of the same scum that we branded as,--THE RAT BURGLARS''--there are too many similarities
We believe that these sub human SOB,s are right out here with us!

A DAYLIGHT BURGLARY AND THE CHALLANGE OF NIGHT TIME AT THE GATE

Last evening,May 21, we had 2 marked ''patrol carts'' with light bars operating in the park at the same time. At around 9:15, we were at the gate area when a OCSO unit came in. The deputy stopped and told us that he was called for a burglary investigation ,in the 14500 block of Pine Valley. He was complimentary of our marked cart.
While talking to the young officer, he received a ''code 3'' call for an emergency, in the UCF area. He left with lights on ,said he would be back ASAP.
We went to the address that the deputy had been in route to. A female, renting resident met us at the scene of the burglary. These details given were---At around 6 PM she left the house and went to a neighbors house, a few doors down the street. admittedly, she neglected to lock the main door. When she returned, approximately 2 hours later---someone, had entered the home and took around $90 in cash,---but more bizarre--pulled the refrigerator, out from the wall??---ALL IN BROAD DAYLIGHT!--We advised the resident about the delay of the officer and left the Pine Valley area.
At around 10 PM, we went back up to the gate area.Shortly thereafter,--2 young white males came through the gate--one on a small bike--the other on a skate board. When asked where they were going---of course to---''GRAND MA,S HOUSE''   [One cart carries a mini dash cam]
One of the youths was somewhat belligerent when asked where grandma lived, and would not answer.---SO---we followed them down to the 14300 block of Spyglass. The house that they went to, has a long history of young ,unregistered people living there from time to time. We called the other patrol cart [Randy Muehl] to join us as a witness. --Sure enough--grand ma came out and launched into a tirade!---Of course we were the ones in the wrong--even though,it was admitted ''the boys were just living there until they found another place'' ---The ''grandson became somewhat combative and was warned that if he TOUCHED anyone his ass was going to 33rd st.
Both carts left and went out into other area,s.
The parents and grandparents that shelter their off-springs and grandchildren, without proper background checks and registration---continue to be a source of problems for the Fairways---THEY ARE THE ENABLERS!
A picture and email was sent to management
We now have 2 patrol carts in operation The 3rd unit should be ready next week and be available to other volunteers.
A special thanks to Randy and Kathy Muehl, who have put a lot of time and effort into getting our independent patrol program off to a good start--even the cops like it!.

A ''BETTER MOUSE TRAP?''

ALL FAIRWAYS RESIDENTS ARE FED UP AND FRUSTRATED WITH ALL OF THE THIEVERY GOING ON IN OUR COMMUNITY!
We all are in search of ways to curtail the problem and help in the apprehension of those responsible.--Maybe the information below might help, or at least give residents some peace of mind.

Pictured is a different style security camera, sold by the new Academy sports store [old Publix location] The camera is programmed strictly for home security use. The camera is similar to a ''game'' camera that hunters use but with much simpler programing requirements. The camera can be mounted anywhere-- no wiring,-- it's weather proof, runs on batteries and stores photo,s or video,s on a typical digital card. The camera starts and takes the pictures, when movement is detected, within 50 ft.----day or night! The pictures and videos are, ''time stamped'' with date and time ,right to the minute, of the occurrence.
Fairways Watch has heard so many residents --say-- I heard something last night, and I was afraid to go see what made the noise!--This little box would have the answer waiting for you the next morning.
IF THE 2 HOMES THAT WERE BURGLARIZED LAST WEEKEND--WOULD HAVE HAD ONE OF THESE CAMERA,S  IN THEIR CARPORT---POSSIBLY THE THIEVING SOB,S WOULD BE IN JAIL RIGHT NOW.
The picture quality is excellent. The night pictures are black and white, while the day pics are beautiful color. The pictures are very simply down loaded with a common card reader.
THE BIGGEST SURPRISE IS THE LOW PRICE----$39.95 plus batteries and card.
SEVERAL RESIDENTS ARE ALREADY USING THESE UNITS---SO---RATS BEWARE!

A BIG ''DOUBLE HEADER'' IN THE FAIRWAYS

YES!---THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS--2 BURGLARIES----MAY 16,-- IN THE PARK
Earlier today we reported, the first burglary on Warwick Hills.---THEN---about 1 PM ,we got a call from a resident saying that she had found apiece of religious jewelry in her yard.On the way to PICKUP the jewelry, we received a call about a BREAK-IN on Linrick Ct.--sheriff, on the way!
OCSO quickly responded, but had to wait for 2nd deputy to enter the home. There was a screen''ripped'' out of a front slider, but no entry had been made at that location. The point of entry was the side door, in the carport. THE DEAD BOLTED DOOR WAS RIPPED OPEN AND THE DOOR CASING SHATTERED!
In this writers humble opinion, it would take a person with the strength of a BULL MOOSE, to shatter the door frame, like it was done! There were no bar marks or other types of damage to the exterior of the door or outside portion of the door frame.

We suspected that the piece of jewelry, found down the street earlier was connected to this break-in. We gave the necklace to the investigating officer. Sure enough---the piece was identified by the victim when interviewed by the deputy,on the phone. Due to the fact that the piece of jewelry, was found on Inverary, down from Linrick,--it may indicate that the ''scummies'' went through back yards, heading toward Warwick Hills.
At this time the losses could not be dertermined, victim is snowbird.
FOLKS, THIS PROBLEM IS  PAST THE POINT OF BEING RIDICULOUS!---IT'S LUDICROUS--THE GENERAL FEELING OUR POPULACE IS--THE PERPETRATOR IS A PERSON OR PERSONS LIVING AMONG US!
Think about it---does anyone really think that these crimes are being done by outside punks, just driving down Colonial,---committing these acts as crimes of opportunity?
HELL NO--it' some one that knows the highways and by-ways of our community. It could also very well be DRUG DRIVEN!.
A LOT OF GOOD FOLKS ARE WORKING WITH FAIRWAYS WATCH TO HELP THE COMMUNITY---WHAT IS HOMETOWN DOING, BESIDES TRYING TO COVER UP ?

ANOTHER BURGLARY--NO RAT THIS TIME!

YES---ANOTHER BURGLARY!--2000 BLOCK WARWICK HILLS CIRCLE.

Details are not complete yet---entry made through cut screen and window entry. The theft occured between 6:30 PM and 1:30 AM--- Reportedly ,a gun and some cash were taken The loot was believed to have been carried away in a laptop computer bag. --911 was called at 2 AM---it is believed that thieves left out of the  Warwick Hills circle area by way of the cart path in the area of #15 and #14 fairways. ---That path would lead to the Westchester pool parking area area! This would indicate, that once again, that ''the thieves know the Fairways well''
This information is very preliminary. We will update as soon as more information is known.

Additional information---Although the method of entry was different,--there are similarities to the ''rat cases''
In most cases the stolen property, was carried away, in different forms of  cloth containers. ---Valuable electronics were left untouched,--entries were made through small openings---only small valuables were taken--- items that could be carried on a golf cart, bicycle, or by a person on foot. It is a consistent fact that the thieves seem to have an exceptional knowledge of the Fairways Country CLUB and it's residents.

RESPONSE TO A RESIDENTS LETTER

Several days ago ,a resident sent an Email letter to our county commissioner and the sheriff.[ SHOWN AS A POST TITLED ''A RESIDENT SPEAKS''] The prompt reply is published below, from Captain Garrison, to the resident
We thank the resident for sharing this information.

I am the Captain for East Orange County, which covers Fairways Country Club.  I want to assure you that your gated community is afforded the same level of response that any other community in Orange County receives from the Sheriff’s Office.   Traffic enforcement on private roadways is the only issue with gated communities.  Conducting patrols for criminal activities, responding to calls, and investigating crimes are not affected.  I have directed extra patrol in your area for the burglaries and spoke with the Detective Sergeant in Property Crimes to ensure they are working diligently on these cases.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Captain Stephen Garrison
Orange County Sheriff's Office
Uniform Patrol Division
Sector 2 Commander

TEST RUN OF A ''PROTOTYPE'' PATROL VEHICLE

Fairways Watch is ''experimenting'', with a simple device that may aid in the lack of gate security and an absence of a patrol capability.

Some residents may remember,--until about a year ago ,Fairways Watch had the use of an old retired,3 seat cart that had been formerly used by the HTA sales staff. This arrangement was originally proposed by HTA. We mounted a light bar on the unit ,maintained it and kept it charged. Fairways Watch and friends, put many miles on the ''old bus''.When the old cart, needed  repair, HTA management first said that they would have the work done. Like so many other maintenance repair requests---their promises were empty.--After many inquiries, with no results, we towed the old cart to the maintenance area and left it!--I think it was sent to the scrap yard.
The old cart, with it's light bar had it's value.--A group of volunteers that included-- [myself, Bill & Judy Clark, Bob Patrick, and Bobbie Jancen]--would go and park the cart, inside the gate, with the light bar on.---Time and time again--some cars would pull into the gate compound, stop--and do a 180 degree departure!--They simply did not know ,who or what the flashing lights were.--THEY EVIDENTLY, DID NOT HAVE LEGAL ACCESS TO OUR COMMUNITY!
I must admit, I miss the old ''white bus''.I had thoughts of asking HTA for some kind of replacement---but I think that would have been an exercise in futility.
SO----We came up with a ''plan B-''--something that most residents can share in the use of.. ---We built a cheap, light weight prototype light bar, using battery power, with 50 LED lights.
This little gadget, can be installed temporarily on ANY golf cart in less than one minute. It only weighs approximately 4 lb.--There is no wiring of any kind--yet---it lights up with a flashing red and bright white brilliance!--On the device is a lighted sign,--saying---''FAIRWAYS NEIGHBORHOOD PATROL''.
Within the near future, Fairways Watch, along with an ''anxious'' volunteer, will have a night time ''test run''. We want to see what type of reaction, we get at the gate, and also while traveling in and about the community. ---The only ''weapons ''that we will
carry will be a cell phone and a camera.
If this simple device, proves to have merit---WE CAN BUILD ANOTHER TWO OR THREE FOR RESIDENTS TO USE,FROM TIME TO TIME ON THEIR PERSONAL CARTS AND SHARE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY!-----IT"S WORTH A TRY ----STAY TUNED!

A RESIDENT SPEAKS

Copied below, you will find correspondence from a Fairways resident to our elected county commissioner, and our sheriff.Although the resident, did not request anonymity, we chose not to identify her, unless she requests us to do so.
THE RESIDENT, MAKES SOME VERY VALID POINTS.---MAYBE SOME MORE LETTER WRITING, SHOULD BE FORTHCOMING!

 o: Ted.Edwards@ocfl.netJerry.Demings@ocfl.net

MAY 11  2015
I am a resident of the Fairways Country Club located off E. Colonial Drive.  Since January we have a reported 7 residential burglaries, 1 was an occupied dwelling.  Last week at our HOA meeting Deputy Belmont spoke to us on crime prevention.  She also stated that being a gated community we are not entitled to having deputies patrol our streets, unless we pay an off-duty deputy to do so. (management will not spend the money)
We have a gated community to try to deter bad people from committing crimes against us.  Our feeling is that the latest burglaries are being done by a person, or people, that live here.  A gate does not keep us safe from those who live here and commit these crimes.
Our main roadway into our community is Pebble Beach Blvd.  This is a county road, not a private road.  Many of us don't understand that as Orange County residents who pay taxes, why we are not entitled to the same protection as areas that are not gated. Knowing we do not get regular patrols from the deputies is like giving the green light to commit crimes in our neighborhood.
I know there is an ordinance stating gated communities are private, and therefore are not entitled to OCSO patrols.  This is so wrong to punish those who are trying to keep out crime.  How hard would it be to have our areas protected?  I have found that many residents at the Fairways have guns and are not afraid to use them.  Is it going to take someone being shot/killed to make the county realize that every citizen is entitled to the same protection regardless where they live?

I beg you, Commissioner Edwards, to please talk to the other commissioners, and Mayor Jacobs, about this problem and change this ridiculous rule of gated communities having to pay for what others get for free.

Thank you in advance for any support you can give to my request.

''REVEILLE''-----IT'S WAKE UP TIME!

FOLKS,---WE HOPE EVERYONE HAS HEARD THE BUGLE!---
We need to help each other and our community.
Fairways Watch depends on the eyes and ears of the good residents. YES---we have a printed list of named block captains, however,as in any group of volunteers some are very active--some never were! The folks that were ''captains'' in name only ---are supplemented by a sizable group of, un-listed, caring, resident owners.
Fairways Watch communicates with some of the listed Captains and the unlisted spotters on a daily basis.
With the current ''RAT CRISIS'',  we would like to expand our program. We have left some simple forms for block captain applications at the Greenbrier and Masters. Interested residents may also apply on this site,by doing this:----go to comments, submit anonymously, [marked not for publication]--give us your name,--address,--phone,-- and Email address.
Please submit, only if you want-to be an active captain.
At a later date, we can have an ''up-dated'' captains meeting, with a deputy from OCSO.
Printed below are some excerpts from a watch manual.
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH The best crime prevention device ever invented is a good neighbor. The security steps you and your neighbors take as a group are just as important as the things you do individually. This joint effort is called Neighborhood Watch. Neighborhood Watch should include an effort to inform everyone of good home security techniques, marking and listing your property, and neighborhood participation. In addition, it should include watching out for and reporting suspicious or unusual activities in your neighborhood.

BLOCK CAPTAINS Volunteers are needed to serve as block captains.  The block captain’s duties are varied but essential to the success of your Neighborhood Watch. These tasks include welcoming new neighbors and encouraging their participation in the program; compiling a list of names of all persons on their block who wish to participate; serving as a liaison between citizens and law enforcement.

                TOGETHER--- WE CAN!

ANOTHER CONFIRMED ''RAT'' BURGLARY

ANOTHER RAT BURGLARY ON FIRESTONE CIRCLE.--UN-OCCUPIED --RENTAL RESIDENCE!

THESE SAME POST HEADLINES ARE BECOMING ALL TOO FAMILIAR.
On Monday May 4 ,another ''RAT' burglary was discovered on Firestone Circle--14900 block. We are not certain of the actual date of the break in. A rental home was entered in the same manner as 6 others before. Although there were big TV screens, in the home ,--they were not touched. Some storage drawers were left open---no losses noted.. The main financial loss was in the extensive damage done to the heating--cooling system. The connecting hardware of the return duct was literally destroyed. .
OCSO was called and a report was filed. No fingerprints, could be ''lifted''
Protective suggestions will be forthcoming in a future post.
