JUST BE PREPARED---NOT SCARED!

JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY, HAS HEARD ABOUT THE ''RAT BURGLAR'' AND SOME OTHER SERIOUS SECURITY ISSUES!

Fairways Watch would like to address some of the information being circulated about these topics.
We have been advised by a trusted resident that HTA management has said, [in reference to Fairways Watch] ---''It is not a good idea to sensationalize, UNWARRANTED security issues with seniors''
In other words folks--you should not be made aware of the criminal activities, going on in your own back yard!
 Fairways Watch DOES NOT SENSATIONALIZE!
We tell the TRUTH-----it is a shame that some of the others around us do not adhere to that same golden rule of life!
All of the Fairways Watch information comes from public records,-- police reports,--personal up close witnessing--backed by photo's.
It is true that the current method of burglary entry is of an extremely unusual nature, and could possibly be deemed ''sensational'' by title.--Even 30 year veteran police officers, have never heard of similar occurrences.
WE NEED TO KEEP OUR COOL!--and do some simple basic ,common sense things!

#1--WATCH around your neighbor hood --call Fairways Watch, if you see home skirting, out of place or anything else of a suspicious nature---We will go check.

#2 Keep an extra eye on any home around you that may not be currently occupied,--snowbird homes and those that may be on vacation or in the hospital.--There is nothing wrong of checking the door lock on unoccupied home,as the rats always leave the front door unlocked

#3  Install a simple guard over the floor hole for the return air run. Previous posts and comments cover this suggestion.--BUT---A word of caution--SHOP AROUND--for a fair deal on the installing of a vent guard. I know of several good trusted handy men that do an excellent job for around $20. Their low cost barely covers the expense of materials--thus they are providing a true service to our community. They should be fondly remembered, when residents need normal handy man services.
ON THE OTHER HAND---Fairways Watch has learned that some self proclaimed ''handy people'' are attempting to charge as high as $55 and $75 for some kind of a super ''rat guard''.---THAT IS A PURE BULL CRAP-- A RIP OFF AND A ROYAL SCREWING OF THE GOOD FOLKS IN OUR BELEAGUERED COMMUNITY!---Remember them later too!
Lastly,--Lets work together,--communicate,--go to resident HOA and even the board meetings.---USE  BOTH LOCAL BLOGS, AVAILABLE TO YOU ! There is
an undisputable strength in numbers---WRITE LETTERS!--MOST OF ALL STICK TOGETHER.
I chose the above picture for a reason---many of us ''old farts'' can remember this picture from a WW2 poster asking everyone to volunteer to whip the enemy.
THE MESSAGE ON THE POSTER, WORKED 70+ YEARS AGO--IT CAN ALSO WORK AGAIN FOR THE GOOD RESIDENTS OF THE FAIRWAYS!

May I offer a Suggestion?
My wife and I moved to Fairways a couple of years ago because it fit our lifestyle. We both work full time and don’t have a lot of free time to devote to yard work so we felt Fairways would work for us. We will both retire in a few years and would like to continue living here but only if changes are made as to the manner in which the community is maintained and managed.
We read this blog frequently Mr. Heldreth and thank you for keeping us informed on community affairs. This is the only means of communication we seem to be able to rely on to tell the truth. Because of our work schedules and selfishness on our own part we do not have time to become active or attend Homeowners meetings but fully support most actions the board takes.
It is can’t be easy being a member of an HOA Board that has no monetary pay and attempts to run the organization without any members paying dues so I salute all of you for your unselfish contributions.
The biggest concern most residents seem to have is that of security. There is none. I see and hear a lot of comments regarding letter writing campaigns to the main office in Chicago. Let me tell you from experience that it doesn’t always work that way. We have in place a duly elected body that by law represents the members who elected them to office. They are the awfully recognized representatives of the community and the owners must accept that.
That being said may I offer a suggestion? As the lawful representatives why doesn’t the Board of Directors either by referendum or unanimous vote adopt a letter signed by all board members and send it to the President of Hometown in Chicago with copies to our lawyer, if we have one and perhaps a copy to the local media for their support stating the issues intelligently and asking for remediation? This letter should explain that the board is acting on behalf of the residents according to law. This will not cost the residents ant money and most certainly would be in accordance with the law because the board is our representatives. I think this would be more powerful than individuals writing letters that may be off target or be worded inflammatory.
I think if we can concentrate our efforts on how nice of a community this could be we may get more accomplished but it will require cooperation from the owners. Let’s do it by the law, document our efforts and give Hometown a chance to show that they are willing to work towards making this a better community for all.
And thank you Mr. Heldreth for allowing us to express our comments anonymously.

SENSATIONALIZE - Miss Priss doesn't understand the meaning of the word. Thats too big a word for you sweetheart! You should stay within your own confines and let Bill do his job, but on the other hand if you did what Bill has asked, (security guards) we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place now would we?

I THINK FAIRWAYS COULD BE THE COMMUNITY HTA ADVERTISES,BUT WHAT I'VE SEEN SO FAR IS A COMMUNITY FALSELY ADVERTISED AND PROMOTED BY A CUT RATE CORPERATION WHO STACKS THE CARDS IN THEIR FAVOR. UNTIL CARING MANAGEMENT IS IN PLACE OR A REAL CORPERATION OWNS FAIRWAYS, THE RESIDENTS WILL HAVE TO DO WITHOUT THINGS PROMISED AND PROTECT THEMSELVES, WHILE HTA'S POCKETS GET FATTER.

Bill, if you still have that proposal for the security system, why not mail it to Mr. Braun's home address in Windemere? That security system would solve so many problems and keep the unwanted visitors at check by everyone having to register their cars with a bar code sticker. The system will watch other areas of the park as well having two way conversations with the person in the park. It is so economical and so much better then all the unnecessary renovations they make. It would help HTA as well in their sales since the East side is becoming the Wild Wild West.
