BACK TO THE FUTURE?

As most folks know, only too well--changes and additions continue at our front gate.

There is one important addition that may have not been noticed yet.
On the traffic light mounting cross-arm,nearest our entrance---the Florida dept. of transportation has mounted 2 traffic camera's.
The camera pictured on the far right,is aimed directly at our outbound traffic lane. The other camera on the left appears to be directed at the soon to be revised entrance lane on the highway.
We feel that this is an important recognition of our community and our traffic problems.
This appears to be strictly a government function and not that of HTA.
Folks---there continues to be some hazardous conditions created at our front entrance area by drivers, pulling beyond the marked ''STOP HERE'' area. There are also drivers using the green through light as a turn signal into the Fairways.
Sometimes common sense just does not prevail.
IT IS OUR OPINION THAT THE NEW GOVERNMENT CAMERAS ARE A POSITIVE THING!
Let us hope that when HTA puts their ''revised front plan'' into effect that it too will show concern for our residents.
COULD BE----MODERN SENSOR'S

Bill ,I believe those are new turn sensors to replace the old buried ones that had to be driven over.

I think Jim is correct, because, according to my most recent research, those "cameras" are not found anywhere withing FDOT's 511 system.

Let's mount those 2 CAMERAS and a dozen more on strategically scattered existing light poles throughout the community....complete with infra-red capabilities. Connect them to a 'cloud' where the info is stored.

Lastly, post well-lit signs at the entrance and throughout Fairways, reading:

'WARNING! THIS COMMUNITY IS UNDER CONSTANT 24 HOUR TAPED SURVEILLANCE'

Pretty cool idea when you consider the only effective way to make a that type of cloud connection would be through a community-wide wifi. Of course, that's a 21st century solution. Free wifi for everyone. There is no way Brighthouse would allow HTA to do that.

Though I have yet to explore the feasibility, I have also wondered if there is anyway for those of us with high-definition surveillance systems could have them configured so that they could also hook into a community network, available to duly sworn law enforcement only.

Also, like here on Wingfoot, a number of us with surveillance capabilities have HD cameras pointing up and down our streets and, by tactic agreements, across each other's backyards. An interesting idea, then, would be to explore the possibility that our systems could be on file with OSCO so, if there was a nearby felony, investigators could access our hard drives, or cloud servers, for clues. The operative scenario there would be "felony criminal investigation."
