HOW TO AVOID ''ROAD RAGE''---

road rage image

Aggressive driving behaviors, such as speeding and tailgating, can often lead to road rage. According to the National Safety Council, motorists rate this as a top threat to highway safety.
Here, we provide practical tips on how to avoid road rage—as well as some startling stats, common reasons that cause road rage and wisdom from experts—to ensure your safety while driving.

7 ways to avoid road rage:

  1. Move over if someone is tailgating you
  2. Use an “I’m sorry” gesture (e.g. wave) to attempt to defuse the situation
  3. Plan ahead; allow time for delays during your journey
  4. Consider whether you’ve done something to annoy the other driver and adjust your driving accordingly
  5. Listen to music you enjoy
  6. Use your horn sparingly
  7. Avoid eye contact with angry drivers and give them plenty of room

Reasons to avoid aggressive driving*:

  • Aggressive driving plays a role in 66% of traffic fatalities.
  • 50% of people who encounter aggressive driving behavior respond in kind.
  • A firearm is involved in 37% of aggressive driving incidents.
  • Out of 10,000 road-rage incidents committed over a seven-year span, there were 218 deaths and 12,610 injuries recorded.
“Some good people have bad days and end up in situations they normally never would, simply due to powerful emotions like anger, frustration and stress taking over.” — Richard Senshido, self-defense expert on de-escalating situations with road rage

the "little wave" goes a looooooong way! and keep in mind that maybe, just maybe, we MAY have done something ourselves that was wrong or rude. so many people automatically get defensive when confronted. just stop and think. and most importantly, pay attention!!!

How are things progressing for our National Night Out, Oct 6....we haven't heard too much about it since the initial date was announced. Does anyone need assistance?

RE 11;48
Thank you for your interest---We have been working with Deputy Belmont on the basics of our first ''NIGHT OUT". She suggests, starting with a basic gathering around 6PM ,--with the conclusion around 8PM. Due to the Masters ''mess''---we will be at the mercy of Florida weather. The THEME of the evening, will be security,--safety--and Law enforcement relations.
We want to continue the anti crime ''TARGET HARDENING'' of our Fairways community.
We plan on having some limited exhibits demonstrating security systems and information.
If all goes as planned,--there will be some basic refreshments also.

Yes we would like a few good residents to help us There has been the with drawl of initial volunteers, due to vacation schedules.

THIS WILL NOT BE A PARTY, AS SUCH---THE SOLE PURPOSE OF OUR FIRST NIGHT OUT WILL BE TO ENHANCE THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF OUR HOMES!

WE WANT THIS TO BE SOMETHING FOR ALL RESIDENTS,--OF ALL AGES!

If interested in giving us a hand ---contact by email ---fairwayswatch@yahoo.com

We certainly can understand this. But like a sickness going to the source to find the cause will always help cure the illness. If we would get rid of talking on the phone and get rid of texting while driving this would help on aggressive driving. We need to stop this habit with some people losing their license for 6 months if doing this while driving. Our laws and enforcing them would certainly help.

Riding my bike yesterday, was completely splashed by a young lady driving a white car on spyglass. For some reason, some of our residents find this amusing. First of all she was exceeding the speed limit, secondly she was rounding a curve and completely splashed me. She also knows she did this. I think that we just need to be a little more courteous in general. There is no reason for anybody to be doing this to anybody and I'm sure the young lady, would not have liked it had someone done this to her. But she needs to beware because occassionally this young lady who lives on spyglass also drives around in her golfcart.

Hey Bill, maybe some of your readers can answer a question for us, we recently read an article in the Eagle by Miss Priss about how good the Subway sandwiches were in the pro shop every time we go in there we do not see a Subway. Does that mean our manager does not have a handle on things or are the subs so good there are always gone????? Are there subs in there or not??? Thank you..

I --like so many others have no reason to go to the ''SNACK BAR''--since they STOLE our restaurant. ---So I can not answer your question. Perhaps some other reader can.
I have heard references made to the ''PETRIFIED" hot dog wheel!

Bill, do you know if the trash is delayed a day because of the holiday? I tried calling the office and it goes directly to vm.

also a quick blurb about the petrified hot dog stand. I too will not patronize that poor excuse for a snack bar. I have been in there to get change to use the large washing machine at the laundry mat. While waiting in line, I noticed all the coolers partially filled with items, I could only imagine how old that stuff is; I can't believe they would sell enough to warrant a rotating stock.
Actually right after they first opened, I do remember my spouse and I thought we would treat ourselves to a ice cream sandwich. it was the most disgusting thing, I spit it right out. It had melted and was refrozen and had freezer burn, they actually had the nerve to sell that crap. I refuse to give them a second chance as I don't want to end up in the emergency room.

A ha! I hear the garbage truck as I finish this sentence....

I've had a couple of the sandwiches. They're not to bad. I mean they're not fresh or anything but they are ok for a quick meal while I'm playing golf or if I don't feel like leaving the park.

As a former resident who lived in the Fairways 30 plus years, the newer folks/residents might not believe that you "HAD TO RESERVE A TABLE" at the so-called snack bar for dinner on Tuesday nights. It was always over flowed with people, laughing and enjoying an "evening at The Fairways. The same was also true on Friday nights.

After couples golf, on Wednesdays, the first groups in got the tables and if you came in later you had to wait for a seat. And you did just that, as the lunches were great, to say nothing of the fellowship.

On Friday noons after golf the snack bar was ALWAYS CROWDED. It was interesting, not only golfers, but there were many groups of ladies who "went out to lunch on Friday at the snack bar".

Years ago we had over 800 members of Fairways Country Club. Rounds of golf were long! We stood in line for tee times. There were CLUBS that played monthly scrambles.

I do think a decent, well run restaurant would be a huge help in bringing the park residents back together. Happy people/groups have a tendency to do lies griping.

I hate to say it, but "Oh for the good old days!!!!"

To clarify the previous statement wherein it said we had over 800 members.....that was over 800 GOLFERS.

I understand there were a number of qualified people who were interested in running the restaurant, only to be shut down without any reason given except that the residents would not support it. I for one, KNOW that is a lie. We all have been begging for it for 2 years. I said it then and say it now, Billy Casper has more interest in our park than managing a small mom and pop golf course. New Pro Shop,(took our reataurant) golf course irrigation, all food and beverage rights, etc.any Masters involvement, etc. I hope I'm wrong, but time will tell. Can anyone see HTA spending close to 1 million bucks on all of this when important things like roads, sewers, water supply, security, etc. are ignored because it's not in the budjet? Everything being done is nice for the residents that partake, but VERY benficial to Billy Casper. And all they do is manage the golf course? yeah, right......

Still with the restaurant??? What a broken record.

What do you mean stil? Of course still. We should be fighting until it's back in resdents hands and not hometowns pockets.

Want to bet where the 6:34 comment came from????????

In ref to 6:34
One might wonder,if a resident wrote this comment! Some of the other comments above, especially Randy's reflect the true feelings of most REAL residents! I think Randy's thoughts about the Casper Corp involvement,is right on target. It seems that Casper has in some ways taken control of the 'NOT SO OVER 55 FAIRWAYS COUNTRY CLUB''
