'' GRANDPA'S GOLF CART''

      AN ACCIDENT, WAITING TO HAPPEN!

On Saturday evening, at approximately 6:45PM, we were out on our normal evening community check.
While down by the west dog walk on Warwick Hills dr., we noticed 2 young boys driving around the area on a nice, well kept Club Car cart.
The cart seemed to be a 48 volt with a ''performance motor''.
The younger boy, estimated age of 10 years was driving at full speed. The cart was driven around the very rough grass area, near the west pond, at top speed.
After circling the pond, the boys took off down and around Warwick Hills circle, again at speed!
We waited for the boys to come back around the circle. We stepped out onto the road and stopped them. We politely asked them about the cart and where they were visiting.----YEP----you guessed it---It was ''grandpa's cart.''
I advised them that they were too young to be out on the cart by themselves, and they should have a drivers license to operate a cart in here. The older boy told me ---'it is ok because I am 14'' I respectfully disagreed with him.
The boys refused to give me their or Grandpa's name and address.
After cautioning them and telling them to go back to ''grandpa's----the boys pulled out at full speed and ''blew'' through the stop sign at Warwick and Inverary!
I hope the boys got back okay.

IF SOME READER OF THIS BLOG,--KNOWS ''GRANDPA''-- PLEASE ADVISE HIM OF THIS REPORT!

I certainly hope you use the same aggressive intervention tactics when you spot your neighbors speeding though the park... running stop signs... driving drunk... driving golf carts along Fairways' streets while drinking alcohol.

I think I mentioned a grandson driving grandma and other grandkids around on the road by Troon St and Pebble Beach a month or so ago. Don't know if it is the same family. I also witnessed a young boy driving a cart on the golf course, tee hole 10, with his father. While Dad teed off, son drove the cart. Mickey

It's different when an adult has control of the cart, at least as a passenger. Problem is, it's not illegal for any age kid to drive a cart in the park alone, being that it's private property (so we are told by the HTA office). What happens when there is an accident of some kind?

(i believe you can insure your golf cart... but who does? ) it's a gentle way to introduce driving to children with little risk. BUT... grandma and grandpa should be supervising!!! i'm sure these kids were tickled pink to drive the cart- but luckily for them- these are "private roads" and therefore not AS MUCH danger as out in the world. my grandparents would have ridden with me. and only let me drive on the grass. grandma and grandpa, PLEASE keep an eye on these precious children.

Our golf carts were insured by an "umbrella" on our homeowners policy.
Not too costly an addition price for "peace of mind"

Bill, with all respect, I walk my dog after dark every night. At least four out of seven days, I encounter a drunken adult (or several--whenever the local bar closes and they come home). They are driving through here, running stop signs, speeding and endangering people. Even when a policeman on patrol witnessed two people driving in excess of 40 mph last week, surely drunk, he sauntered on down the road, doing nothing. Frankly, two kids... it's peanuts. We have dangerous adults here, and I wish someone would take on that issue and don't waste time worrying about a one-time-seen pair of kids. Driving drunk is seriously illegal, private property included.--Lynn Carpenter

I cannot believe the posts that think it's ok to let unsupervised CHILDREN illegally drive your golf carts. Unbelievable......

This has NOTHING to do with insurance. This has everything to do with the safety of our residents.

And FYI.... your insurance will not cover this illegal activity. Be prepared to be sued should an accident or death happen.

This doesn't relate to the golf carts! We are still experiencing residents that don't see the relocation of the green turn light into Fairways. A lady was so unaware! I beeped twice and waved to her. A red truck behind me was so impatient decided to turn up over the media, kicking rocks and loose debris to turn into Fairways. When the lady saw him turning she finally went. It will be so nice when they improve our area.

I have insurance policy wilh same coverage as my vehicles from Allstate on my golf cart. These folks letting young kids speed around park should look at some coverage in case an incident occurs. Insurance might not cover kids tho that don't have license. I've seen kids under 5 steering a cart with a adult many times. These situations are accidents waiting to happen.
