LATEST INFORMATION FROM OCSO SECTOR 2

Orange County Sheriff's Office
Crime Prevention Unit
All:

As we head into the summer months and school will be let out June 4th, 2014, let us all take a few extra steps to reduce crime in our community.

Crime Prevention is a tool that you can take with you everywhere, the store, bank, church, work etc. While you are going about your day, and you see anything out of the ordinary or observe a crime in progress, pick up your phone and call the Sheriffs Office. You may call either 911 or our non-emergency line 407-836-HELP (4357). Ensure you talk with your neighbors and inform them of the activities in the neighborhood.

As a community and a neighbor, we can work together to lower these numbers. I challenge each and everyone of you to make a difference and lower these numbers for the next monthly report.

These numbers can be reduced by taking that extra moment to ensure valuables are removed from your vehicles, garage doors and windows to your homes are locked. Do you see a vehicle(s) parked in a driveway to a home you know no one lives in? Call it in to law enforcment. Let's take away any opportunity for criminals to commit crimes.

If you have any questions please feel free to call me or e-mail me at any time.

THE ''CLOWN CAR'' SCENERIO

''BACK IN THE DAY'', many of us seniors, remember going to see the circus when it came to our town. The arrival of the big top and its performers is certainly something we remember most fondly.
We remember the wild animal acts, elephants, trapeze artists and of course the clowns? They made us laugh. The one clown act that I remember in detail was the little, silly car that would come sputtering out and stopped with a loud boom. After the bang, an untold number of goofy clowns came piling out of the very small vehicle----1--2--3--4--5--then we lost count. --How many clowns were in that car?
We have a similar ''act''in our Fairways community!--- BUT,its not funny! We have untold numbers of people living in some relatively small spaces. There seems to be an increasing problem of unapproved, unchecked, residents, moving in with others! Reportedly, we have 7-8 people living in at least one residence. A while back Priscilla said at a board meeting that they depend on residents to notify them of ''move - in''violations.----Folks we have to do it!--Go to the office or call them--even better notify them in writing.
FAIRWAYS WATCH PRACTICES, WHAT IT PREACHES!

YES FOLKS, THEY ARE IN HERE!

This attached photo, taken at 3 am,Monday morning near the front of the park says a lot. Here is a young no name, prowling around a home with no obvious good intent.---WOULD IT NOT BE NICE TO HAVE A REMOTE LIVE AGENT SECURITY GATE SYSTEM?--We could have had one at a very reasonable cost.----WHY NOT?--Because the homeowners committee claims there was an election voting it down {nearly 20 years ago]-- and HTA would rather spend money on a ''watchamcallit' like we have at the Greenbriar.
We are also getting an increase in pool complaints for young outsider students and family members of the outside golfers.
WE CAN NOT AFFORD A POOL MONITOR EITHER!

         GO FIGURE!!

THE UNKNOWN AMONG US

Your neighbor hood watch coordinator is is in the 15th year of residency in the Fairways. For 11 of those years I have had the privilege and pleasure of working with the watch program and the Orange County Sheriffs Office. During this time I have seen numerous examples of criminal activity and  problematic community social issues. Many of the social problems involved unregistered, and unapproved residents.---''the mystery move ins'' are always with us.
HOWEVER,---I have never seen as many unknowns, walking our streets and using our amenities as we have now!--I see as many as 5 to 7 cars, parked overnight, at a 2 bedroom house!----I see very young  people who claim to be residents--yet when asked, say that they are not registered.--further more they will not give addresses.
CASE IN POINT---This AM I saw two young,''unkept'' males, walking---I did something that I am not supposed to do,--I profiled them, and stopped and talked to them. [a George Zimmerman no no]--They said yes they lived with their mother, but would not give me moms address---One said that he was 21 and had a job, and did not have to register anywhere!---RED FLAGS. I then pulled back and waited--They went to the ''snack bar''---I waited and quietly followed them to a specific address. ---All of this was sent to Priscilla and Lena. This was a civil community issue, not one that law enforcement can deal with.
 WHAT CAN WE DO??
CALL THE OFFICE--CALL THE OFFICE --WRITE LETTERS--WRITE LETTERS!---If we do not help clean up our own back yard,---we will be just another DEERWOOD.
REST ASSURED FAIRWAYS WATCH WILL DO ALL WE CAN TO ALLEVIATE THIS SAD SITUATION. WE WILL NEVER HESITATE TO EVEN CALL 911, WHEN APPROPRIATE!

THE SAD SAGA OF OUR AREAS HOMELESS

Some of you ,may have noticed the construction clearing on Rt 50.The area in this photo is close by beside Colonial Woods development. This particular area is being cleared for a large retention pond, not for resident construction.
Take special note of the debris pile, in the center of the photo. This separate pile is the remains of the homeless camp, which was in the woods ,next to Fricke Dr..
WE HAD LONG HEARD OF A CAMP ,NEARBY OUR COMMUNITY--WELL FOLKS HERE IS WHATS LEFT OF IT!
In previous conversations with Captain Meade of OCSO,--He had confirmed that the camp existed. The Captain also said that he had a special deputy that monitored the camps in our area. This deputy has become personally acquainted with some of the homeless living there. The Captain has told me several times''there are some good honest people among the homeless,--they are not all criminals''.
Its like the old saying---''EVERY BODY HAS GOT TO BE SOMEWHERE''--Where the folks went to from this camp, is any bodies guess!
If you see anyone suspicious, walking into our community, call 911 and let the deputies check them out---They are qualified to do that,---we are not!

SICK--SICK--SICK !

THIS AM , FAIRWAYS WATCH RECEIVED SEVERAL PHONE CALLS FROM UPSET RESIDENTS. THESE CALLS WERE ABOUT A NOTICE ON THE MAILBOX BULLETIN BOARD.
THE NOTICE WAS SUPPOSEDLY AN ANNOUNCEMENT saying that--''A MEXICAN BILLIONAIRE , HAS BOUGHT THE FAIRWAYS'' !
The notice was cleverly designed to look like a newspaper clipping---upon examination--it became apparent that this was a DEMENTED attempt to be an April fools joke on all of the residents. The stupid trick, went so far as to say Governor Scott was involved, and the Mexican billionaire was going to turn Rt 50 into a MEXICAN RIVIARA.
Folks, we do not need this kind of CRAP ! Some of our residents were extremely upset over this sick attempt of some ''LOON'' trying to be funny.
This is another example of why we need more and a faster means of communication in the community.

CHECK OUT THIS SCAM IN OUR AREA!

credit management association scam elderly orlando Florida

*Consumer Comment: Fraud -

I was contacted by this company September 2013 about a debt consolidation. After speaking with Melissa Daniels
she told me she could lower the interest rates on all my credit cards and eliminate my debt. I was instructed she would issue me a credit card to use during this process and she would pay off all my other cards.
She then started asking me to pay a $2000.00 fee for this. After talking to my husband we decided we were not interested in the service, we informed Melissa of this but without our permission she had a credit card issued in our name. She took a $2000.00 advance on the card, put this in our bank account and two days later withdrew $2000.00 from our account for fees.
We did not know this had occurred, then she called me and asked me to take cash advances from 3 of my credit cards in the amount of an additional $8,200.00 and deposit in my checking account. When asked what this money was for I was told it was for attorney fees. At that point we again told her we were not interested.
When we contacted her we were switched to Tonya and then to Leah. At this point they were very rude and obnoxious. When we tried to call them back the phone did not answer.I do not know how she got a credit card issued in our name without our permission.
This company is preying on the elderly that does not understand this process and need to be stopped and the parties need to be reimbursed. Mine was 2000.00 another report on here was 3200.
At last contact they told me when I paid off my debts they would think about giving me my money back. At this point I have been ripped off two thousand dollars and need to get back.
Someone needs to address this situation and quickly!!! You should not be able to contact people in their 80's and do this.-----------DO NOT GET ''SUCKER PUNCHED''

SOME GOOD ADVICE AND DIRECTIONS!

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS A REPRINT FROM THE ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE THE TIMING IS VERY APPROPRIATE.

Orange County Sheriff's Office

Crime Prevention Unit

As we go about our daily activities we find ourselves running around town, whether it’s dropping the kids off at school, heading to and from work, grabbing the groceries, or walking the dogs.  Throughout our day we see many things happening around us, but how many of us find ourselves observing what is going on around us?
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary “see” is defined as to notice or become aware of (someone or something) by using your eyes, whereas observe is defined as to watch and sometimes also listen to (someone or something) carefully.  When it comes to noticing suspicious activity, the difference would be I saw a person going from house to house vs. I saw a person going from house to house, and then I saw him go to the side or back yard of a house and this is what he was wearing.
When reporting suspicious activity I often get asked what suspicious activity is.  A few examples are, anyone forcibly entering a car or home, someone running from a home or through the neighborhood under unusual circumstances, someone carrying a weapon, a loiterer who doesn't belong in the area or is entering a neighbors private property, a person walking around the neighborhood with items that may be stolen, a person looking into cars or windows of residences, and strange vehicles parked in your area.  A few other situations to observe and report would be someone climbing in or out of a window, broken windows, removed screens, people climbing fences, and people hiding from a passerby.
Remember, suspicious activity can be anything. Once you see something, observe it, and don’t be too quick to rationalize your observations. Remember to trust your sixth sense, and contact the Sheriff’s Office with your observations.
When contacting the Sheriff’s Office be prepared to provide the location and a good description of person(s) and/or vehicle.  When describing a person be prepared to provide an approximate height, weight, facial hair, race, sex, distinguishing marks such as piercings and tattoos, and clothing- anything that is distinguishing.  When describing a vehicle provide as much information as possible such as the color, newer or older model, the make and model if possible, 4 door vs. 2 door, tint vs. no-tint, rims vs. hubcaps, vehicle damage, and the tag if possible.  If you cannot make out the tag number its ok, but try to take note if it’s a specialty tag, or perhaps an out of state tag. All of this information is helpful.
Please remember that your safety is first, be the eyes and ears, back away if you observe something suspicious or criminal, and contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 911 for emergencies, and at 407-836-HELP (4357) for non-emergencies
