ORLANDO,Fla. —
An Orange County man claims
that a knock at the door turned into a home alarm scam that cost him hundreds.
He thought technicians from ADT had come to upgrade his alarm and didn't discover who they really were until it was too late.
“If he didn't say he was from ADT, I would have never let him in the house,” Rolle said.
They installed a new control panel, then asked for $55. Rolle wrote a check.
“And the time I gave Jamie the check, he disappeared, just like that,” Rolle said.
“You all told a bunch of lies and came into my home,” Rolle said.
ADT says hundreds of Florida customers were targeted and tricked into switching companies.
By the time customers realized what happened, they had paid hundreds of dollars in fees and then had to pay to reinstall the original alarm system.
ADT claims some alarm dealers hire aggressive independent contractors, trained to cross the line.
“(They are) teaching them how to lie to consumers, to get inside the door and switch out their security systems,” ADT attorney David Bleisch said.
The techs at Ken Rolle’s house worked for Capital Connect in Arizona. Channel 9's Todd Ulrich reached company CEO by phone. He said if they used ADT's name, they'll be fired, and said it's under investigation.
ADT has sued other companies.
Florida's attorney general ordered two dealers to refund "switched" victims and stop misleading sales.
Ken Rolle is still getting bills for a system he didn't want.
“They keep on nagging me for more money," he said.
The new company took another $150 out of Rolle’s bank account
before he shut
it down.

I saw a young man coming up my drive way and met him half way. He said he was in the area installing a alarm system. He saw my ADT sign and said he could get a system cheaper. I said I would have to check with my husband. He gave me a business card and asked when hubby would be home, he could come back. I said he will call you if interested. Seemed like a nice person. Here is the information on the card...I couldn't attach......24 hour Security, Safeguard America, cell # 407-600-4385, Christian Torres, address on card: 6925 Lake Ellenor Dr. Suit 117, Orlando Fl 32809. Thanks for your help! Mickey Craddock Troon St.
Not an alarm company soliciting, but there has been a truck in here the last couple of days. FOOD KING, I noticed them walking from door to door, I went to approach them yesterday regarding soliciting in the park, and they drove away before I had a chance to speak with them. 2 Guys going from door to door. Interesting
My dogs do a great job guarding us from ups and fed ex trucks. Hope they respond to unwanted visitors the same way. At night time have to wake up one under the covers!'!!!!!!! LOL
Would it be possible to change the background color on your page? Only able to read the highlighted parts. Just a suggestion
