THE ANSWER IS YES-----WE COULD BE NEXT !

On September 1, we posted a reprint of a channel 9 report, titled ''ARE WE NEXT?''  The story was about a local 55+ community, by the name of Gulfstream .  The story details the rise of residential burglaries in the south Orange County mobile home park.
During the 3 weeks plus of our inoperative gates, the Fairways also experienced a significant rise in thefts and burglaries During this time ,several bicycles and other items were stolen.
THE ONE SIGNIFICANT THEFT IS DETAILED AS FOLLOWS: On August 26, a senior resident left his properly locked home to go to the exercise room, for approximately one hour,in late afternoon. This residence is centrally located,in the Inverary and Pine Valley area. When the resident returned, he found that his home had been broken into.Among the items taken, during the burglary was his wallet and a collection of heirloom antique jewelry. Many precious memories were lost. The resident immediately notified the Orange County Sheriffs office, and filed a complete report.Later, After the uniformed deputy left ,the resident was visited by a lost property detective. The detective, continued, with a proper and thorough investigation. The resident ,had nothing but positive comments about OCSO.
Fairways Watch, inquired as to whether the resident victim, reported the crime to the front office. His reply was as follows,---''I went to the office, and spoke to the lady,at the front desk,--I told her what had happened''---Fairways Watch asked if the office attendant made notes, took his name, or commented in any way? The victim simply said ''NO they did not!''
Fairways Watch is at a loss, to understand the reported lack of interest and response to the elder residents loss and misfortune, by the office staff member.
SO folks, how is our gate security, working out for you?
Fairways Watch is continuing to gather ''target hardening'' information for our community.Fairways Watch has been doing a traffic study and count at the front gate. At times the inbound traffic is overwhelming. We believe that a lot of the heavy inbound traffic is due to the ''open'' golf course and tavern. The new electronic sign is also believed to be a contributing factor.
FOLKS WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT OUR BASIC SECURITY!

It appears there were two crimes committed here. The first by the perpetrator that broke into the home and committed the theft.

The second by Hometown for not showing any compassion for the victim, not documenting the incident and not giving a rats a** about what happened to that person in their community. No loss in lot rent, everything's fine here. The office staff's inaction is either a reflection of Hometown's training or a reflection of their policy. "As long as we (Hometown) have not lost a nickel on the incident, no harm done." Shame on you Hometown and shame on you Community Manager.

All they care about is the rent PERIOD and nothing else you call with a question and all you get is "I Don't Know"

Very very sad to hear about the lack of compassion from hometown office staff. Bill, has anymore criminals moved into this community lately?

Some additional info and comment----We have reports of at least 2 additional auto burglaries ,in the Spyglass--Maidstone area --they were reported Sunday morning.--LOCK YOUR CARS!We have been asked about the presence of 3 OCSO cruisers, in the 14600 block of Pebble Beach Saturday evening. These units were detailed to follow up on a previous situation. There was no current criminal activity
I HAVE BEEN INVITED BY THE SECTOR 2 COMMANDER CAPT. MEADE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH HIM NEXT WEEK. I ASSURE YOU THAT THERE WILL BE A NUMBER OF ISSUES DISCUSSED. AT THE TOP OF MY LIST WILL BE OUR ''TARGET HARDENING'' PROJECT AND STUDY. I THINK THAT WE ALL AGREE, OUR''SECURITY GATES''SHOULD BE THE CORNERSTONE OF OUR PROJECT. THAT IS WHY, WE ARE SEEKING ADVICE FROM TOP PROFFESIONALS

I am sure that if our MANAGER and her family lived here in Fairways, things would be a lot different...... She could care less.

As to 'Pebble Beach' having a 'NEW' occupant, make that TWO! Priscilla was made aware and shrugged her shoulders!

In reference to anonymous 8;31AM--My comment is this,--At a recent board meeting , a resident asked Priscilla about move in renters and unregistered guests. Priscilla responded [paraphrasing] "We need to have residents advise us of new people moving in --its the only way we have of knowing, about unregistered residents''If you know of a new unregistered resident-- please use our FAIRWAYS WATCH confidential ''TIP'' box-- We need address and name if possible. Past history has shown that this is the best way of finding felons and lesser criminals seeking residency in our community. We will follow leads.----TKS

I hate to say I told you so. You're probably wondering why the watcher hasn't been on here commenting, I've given up. You might as well roll out the red carpet for the criminals. I tend to agree with most of the commenter’s. If Priscilla lived on the premises, things might get done in a more timely manner and the criminals would be evicted a lot sooner than 6-12 months.
One thing I wanted to mention for no apparent reason other than to make the office aware. Some time ago, last year on a Sunday. I walked into the office, not realizing what day it was. I wanted to inquire about one of the events HTA was sponsoring. Much to my surprise the front door was unlocked! It was dark in there, which is what clued me in to it not being a day I should be in there. I stepped outside shut the door left it as I found it and realized that anyone could've walked right in there and cleaned them out!
Bill is always mentioning to lock up your house, cars

I saved our gates again! I came home from work this morning and arrived at the fairways entrance gate with several vehicles in front of me. One of them was a 52 foot tractor trailer (a moving company) and a cable installer in a van. Seeing the tractor trailer holding up the line, I pushed my clicker and opened the gate for him. I assumed the gate had an electronic eye and would not try to close while a vehicle was in the path of the gate. I assumed wrong, I had to push my clicker again quickly otherwise the gate would have closed on the tractor trailer and ripped the gate out again. The tractor trailer was able to clear the gate, and then a car went thru. Apparently a resident that owned a clicker. The cable installer followed (piggybacked) the car and the gate started to close on him and I hit my clicker again, so the gate would not close on him and tear up the gate. Within 2 minutes I had to push my clicker twice to assure that no damage would be done to our front gate. I know the office is not open that early, that is why I let them in, to avoid a collision on colonial as he was holding up several people out in the line of traffic.
HTA needs to post a sign that clearly states, do not piggyback (follow a car thru) as damage could result from the gate closing on their vehicle. Also it needs to clearly state if you are a vendor you must use the touch pad to gain valid access to the park with the address and name of the person they are attempting to visit. And this again is a reason to have 24hr gate security. With the current setup, it’s a matter of time before the gates are wrecked again and off the hinges for several weeks.
Let’s get this problem solved!

Here's the latest trick the gate runners are doing

I pulled in to driveway and there was a car at the front gate, right in the middle of both lanes, blocking me from passing on one side or the other. He simply waited there until I pressed the button to be let in. It was late at night and I didn't want any confrontation with this person. I let them in so I could get home to bed, but realized after ward that I should have at least remembered to write down the plate number and call Bill with that information.

Next time I will, but I wanted you to be aware of this "new" situation they're putting us in.
